For the 2018 Guelph municipal election, a group of Guelph citizens launched a campaign to convince candidates and voters to treat each other with the respect they would hope to receive themselves. This arose because in recent elections (and, despite The Better Ballot campaign, in this one), the tone of the campaigns had degenerated into personal attacks, particularly against female candidates.
Pearl Street Communications spearheaded the marketing, copywriting and website, with an assist from Lind Design on logo design and graphic collateral. We adopted a neutral, clear tone, using black and cream (politically neutral colours) and the simple iconography of election ballots. The campaign was covered in the local press and had significant social media reach, with interest from electoral districts outside the Guelph area.
The campaign is being translated into French for a wider reach.
