The Secret World of Lichens: A Young Naturalist’s Guide

I'm a bit of a typophile—a good trait for a graphic designer. Sometimes I purchase a new font just because I love it (and because it’s being offered on special—fonts can be pricey!). Case in point: Wonder, designed by Finnish foundry Fenotype. (It harkens back to the classic Cooper Black, which was designed a roughly century ago in 1922 and became representative of the 1970s.) But it has a little more edge to it. I find the characters friendly and open—organic and contemporary. Wonder isn't that far removed from the rounded, friendly font used for the Canadian Museum of Nature logo, which appears on the cover of this children’s book on lichens, a complex, fascinating life form that is a symbiotic partnership of two separate organisms, a fungus and an alga.
