This animated gif shows the process of designing the Hillside Homeside logo.
The COVID-19 pandemic has hit performing artists particularly hard. Hillside Festival, unable take place safely, created a virtual version of its beloved summer event, commissioning 37 artists to perform 37 songs, as well as curating many workshops and performances from the festival archives, online for that last weekend of July only.
I used the main stage, with its distinctive arched living roof as the lynchpin of the logo. Within the angles of the edges of the stage, I nestled two homes, connected by both the stage and a smily sidewalk. The symbolism is clear: we may need to stay home to prevent the spread, but Hillside can still help connect us to each other and to fine musicians.
The logo comes in both static and animated form, with rainbow colours shimmering across its surface.
This logo was so popular that it will also be used for this year's Hillside Inside in February, 2021.
