This local environmental group aims to spur local climate action. In 2023, as part of my personal commitment to advocate for evidence-based climate policy, I helped GCAN with a rebrand that is friendly yet urgent.
Hands of a clock show five minutes to midnight, borrowing iconography from the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists’ doomsday clock (which now stands at 90 seconds to midnight). A black G representing our current, emissions-heavy state fades into an aspirationally green arrow. This simple logo holds the additional concept of a circular economy (rather than the unsustainable growth that our economic system is built upon).
GCAN’s wordmark uses New Atten, a typestyle designed by the excellent British designer Miles Newlyn that was inspired by the “gentle, measured diction” of broadcaster and naturalist David Attenborough’s voice.
I have also been producing GCAN’s graphic collateral — posters, postcards, social media graphics, banner, newsletter — conveying their message with clarity and credibility.
